Organic Grower / Marketing Specialist Internships

We are looking for 2-3 bright, responsible young women & men to join our team for the 2008 growing season.  A successful candidate for the AFO internships will have a great enthusiasm for nature, a background in (or passion for) agriculture and an interest in learning sustainable, organic techniques. A sense of humor is a plus and a tolerance for diversity and hard work are required. This is a terrific opportunity for those interested in one day developing their own small farm to learn the ropes from an experienced team of farmer/artists.

RESPONIBILITES:
The basis of any profitable small farm is a healthy product. Interns will participate in general farm duties (planting, weeding, irrigation, pest control, harvest, etc.) roughly 25 hours a week. Activities will be closely supervised at the beginning of the season, tapering off as interns demonstrate proficiency.

Interns will be expected to assist in the marketing and sales of the products at two local farmer markets. This includes preparing produce for sale, setting up stands, interacting with customers and packing up afterward.  They will also be encouraged to engage in the development of value-added products, such as preserves, crafts, art & catered goods. We are anxious to accommodate school-sponsored growing projects.

COMPENSATION:
Shared living quarters are available for all interns free of charge. Meals on market days plus all the veggies you can eat will be provided by AFO. Interns will be paid a weekly stipend consisting of 15% of gross market sales. A $500 bonus will be given to interns who complete the growing season.

HOW TO APPLY:
Please send your one-page cover letter, resume and references via email to info@artfarmoregon.com.  Be sure to include in your cover letter any relevant work experience in sales, farming or art. Applications must be received by 05/15/2008.
