The Location
Although we do not have a specific location identified at this
time, the acreage we choose will be developed to include at least
3 acres of pasture, 2 acre of orchard, 2 acre of grape vines, a
little yellow farmhouse and a big red barn. The land should be located
far enough away from the city center to avoid urban sprawl but close
enough that the drive will not be prohibitive for customers.
Our goal is to purchase a piece of land that is unoccupied and
largely undeveloped. This status will not only keep the purchase
costs low, but will also allow us to begin development immediately
rather than spend time de-constructing an existing farm.
Washington and Columbia Counties are ideal areas for The Art Farm.
They are both near enough to the grater Portland area that we believe
customers will not be inconvenienced by the drive. There are tax
advantages and assistance available to female agri-business owners
un-available in other counties (grant monies for land reclamation
and education). Disadvantages include high property values/taxes,
high potential of urban growth and strict building limitations.
